NCS (National Citizen Service)

About NCS

National Citizen Service (NCS) North East is delivered in the North East by vInspired and the National Youth Agency (NYA). Both organisations work with scores of local organisations right across the region.

What resources can I access?

NCS is open to all 16-17 year olds, and gives young people who have never met before the opportunity to live and learn together during the school holidays. It exists to address three significant social challenges - social cohesion, social engagement, and social mobility and ensures that all young people benefit from extended networks of support. Mapped against the eight benchmarks of good career guidance, the programme enhances careers education.

Young people challenge themselves and explore their talents. They meet with local businesses and organisations, and recieve money skills training. They develop their CV and reflect on their future options. Learners also apply their skills to deliver social action projects - Department for Education guidance states that social action completed on NCS programmes can enhance work experience - which supports job, apprenticeship and university applications, particularly since NCS is recognised by UCAS and major employers.
